Normally I’d be talking about fabric scraps (about which I am also crazy), but this time, it’s yarn.
It wasn’t enough for me to start the Northeasterly blanket using scraps of yarn (and re-started a second version using the correct size needles and a single strand).
I had a random knitting video going in the background while assembling some more little pencil pouches, and when the host showed the Little Gemstones pattern, I had to rewind and watch that part again.
Having knitted a few designs that use garter stitch short rows (Papillon/Butterfly uses them to great effect), I know that i enjoy that technique.
And having lots of leftovers and mini-skeins, I thought this would be another great design to feature those. The bag above is full of mostly 10-gram mini-skeins I got through a monthly subscription service back in 2019.
The great thing about this design is that you can choose colorways that are bright or demure, coordinated within a select scheme or everything including the kitchen sink, and it will be beautiful in all those ways. I went ahead and chose to use a bare (undyed) yarn as the background color, but depending on how this one goes, I may choose a medium gray or other neutral next (and I’ve seen beautiful dark/black versions as well). Yes, I could see myself making multiple versions of this shawl.
