I can’t remember when I started these, but it’s been well over a month ago. I just pulled some self-patterning sock yarn from stash, and decided to try the Monkey socks pattern again. I had made them before in a tweed yarn, and I love those socks.

The pattern was meant to go all the way down the foot of the sock, but I felt it was really not served by the self striping/patterning of the current yarn, so I reverted to a simple knit once I got to the heel.
I tried out reinforcement thread as I was knitting the new socks, because I had some and I’ve never used it. The thread I used for the heels was a dark green, and it’s actually a lot thicker than I would have liked. This yarn (Steinbach Wolle Aktiv Effekt) is a very hardy yarn in the first place (not a soft merino), and the reinforcement thread probably wasn’t needed, but I gave it a shot anyway.
As a different test, I also used an off-white wooly nylon in one toe. Yes, that’s right, one. I completely forgot to put it in the second toe as I was finishing the pair, and just didn’t have the energy to rip it back out and re-knit with the wooly nylon. It feels better than the reinforcement thread of the heel, since it is not as stiff. I guess I’ll see how the toe wears with and without it, depending on how often I wear these socks. The ones I knit in 2016 are just starting to wear in my usual spots, so I suppose 10 years is not bad for them to last.
