One of my quilting groups (I am a member of several now) is doing a yearly charity project where we all make blocks and one member will piece them all together and then quilt it (someone else binds). Last year it was the Stash Buster Challenge block from 2024. This year we are doing the Quilter’s Attic Grab Bag Log Cabin.
I got a little carried away, when I got started. After all, when you start a log cabin, the seams are really short. The first round of each block goes pretty fast. As you add each round they go a little more slowly. So I finally counted how many blocks I was making when it seemed to take a full day to add one or two strips to each block (there are 4 rounds in this one). 16! One quilt only requires 12 blocks because the blocks are so large. Oh, and we’re doing two variations. This variation is bright and happy blocks with a black and white print in the centers.

I decided that I wasn’t going to work on anything else until I finished these blocks because the strips were all over the room. I ended up having to cut a few more strips (I was really trying not to) when I got to the last round because I didn’t have many that were long enough. I finished those, and the strip boxes are put away again so that I could clear off the table to baste the second charm pack baby quilt. I think the next time I work on one of these, I’ll choose to make a couple of blocks instead of more than one quilt requires.
