I am really getting a kick out of making these. It’s fun to watch the fabric turn into baskets, and then it’s really enjoyable to hand appliqué the fused handles to the background. I recently bought some more colors of thread at a Hobby Lobby 50% off sale too, so I should have colors that match most of the fabrics that I’ll be using in my thread collection now.
The top left olive green is from a charm pack I purchased a few years ago. And there’s that golden yellow again in the basket on the right. I still have more plans for that. I might even make another one of my favorite skirts or maybe a dress?
The green print on the left is from another more recent charm pack. The salmon pink print on the right is from a pack of 100 (or was it 200?) 5-inch squares, 2 of each print. It was one of the first pre-cuts I purchased at the first quilt show I attended (1995 or 1996?). I was originally going to make a quilt just using those, and I started piecing them together by hand. Then I wanted more progress more quickly, and started piecing them together by machine. And then I put them away in favor of other projects (sound familiar?). I finally brought the project out of hibernation many years ago and ripped all of the seams, reclaiming the fabric pieces. They have made their way into many projects since then, and I still have a little stack of the leftovers waiting for the right projects.
