As is often the case, I could not resist making one to try out the process and Edyta Sitar’s (Laundry Basket Quilts) Charm Basket pattern.
I decided to try finishing the handle with hand applique, and I love that you can barely (if that) see the stitches on the front. The little fusible strip holds it in place just enough so that it doesn’t shift around while you’re holding and stitching – it’s so much better than pins.
She demonstrates her process in this video on a little bit larger block (“Gift Basket”), but the Charm Basket handle is the same width as the one used in that block. They are so, so cute, and I have a box of charm packs and 5-inch squares that would be perfect for using in these little darlings. Obviously, this would be another long-term project, combining machine piecing and handwork.
