Way back when (okay, in 2020), I started a patriotic shawl. I thought I liked the design, finished the first section with beads, and started the stripes section. It was a shawl that was designed to look similar to the American flag.
As I got it out to work on Monday night, I realized that I didn’t really enjoy the project at all. Breaking the yarn at each color change was tedious, and even though I could have done it without breaking each time, I decided I just wanted something different.
So I went looking for a design that I could make using the red, white, and blue yarns that I had originally designated for this project. And I settled on a second Cladonia. Here is the first Cladonia that I knit in 2016.
I plan to do red and white stripes down to the eyelets, then the eyelets will be white, the lace will be blue, and the loopy picot bind off will be white. I really like this idea much better, and I know I’ll be happier with the final shawl.
Right now, the stitches are just live on the old project where I removed the knitting needles from it. I haven’t decided what to do with it, but I might just attach one more new yarn and bind off. I’ll probably make that decision after I finish my new Cladonia.
