I think I originally said that I used The Plucky Knitter’s Primo Fingering, but when I looked at my yarn spreadsheet, I realized that it must be their Lodge fingering base instead, based on the colorway name, “Happy Glamper.” This base is a little different, spun from a combination of 60% superwashmerino along with 20% cotton, 10% linen, and 10% silk. It actually seemed a bit more rustic because of those other fibers.
I was happily knitting along and weighing my remaining yarn as I went, when I realized that I would not have enough to completely finish the pattern using just the one skein.
Thinking I might need to just not knit the bottom border area, I assessed my options. And then I spied the leftover ball of yarn from the Bavaria Leaves socks I’d just finished knitting. Incredibly, the color was not far off the base color of Happy Glamper. Even better, the base of the leftover ball of yarn is a tweedy wool yarn, so it has little specks of color (granted, the specks are black, but when taken as a whole, they don’t look black) throughout.
I ended the final mesh section just short of the number of rows I would have normally knit, and from there, I made some additional minor modifications. I added a couple of short garter sections that separate the final border eyelets, and I really think it sets it off nicely. I also shortened that section slightly, because sometimes less is more.
Then I washed and blocked it to open up the mesh a bit. I really love how it looks.
