Sticky Bead Mats

First Impressions

I only had a quick moment last night, once my package was delivered, to open the package and get a quick try-out of the new tool I ordered to help with bead management while I stitch. These are just my first impressions, and I’ll do a more thoughtful, comprehensive review after I’ve had a chance to really give it a test drive.

The small mat is quite small. For projects where you don’t want to work with a lot of beads at one time, I think this is really ideal. I’ll be working with a couple of colors at one time, maximum, and while I’m sitting on the couch.

It is a gray mat, and it is really sticky! As soon as I dropped the beads on the mat, they were set, and even though I turned the mat over completely, they did not drop off. That is awesome! I’ve read some complaints that it was too sticky for the super thin beading needles (which bend fairly easily), but I don’t use those now, so it shouldn’t be a problem for me. For reference, I use a size 28 embroidery needle from Bohin (I think I’ve also used John James size 28 successfully as well) for attaching beads to cross stitch.

I also bought the larger size, and I’ll try it out as well. I think I’ll like them both, and the larger size will be nice when I have an array of different beads in larger projects.
