Start of something new

A friend of mine made a quilt and donated it to our charity this year, and I loved the pattern she made. It uses strings in a couple of different ways, and I’m pretty sure she was inspired by another quilt she saw online, though I haven’t found one exactly like this in my searches.

I used her photo and some of her notes to figure out what I should need to make a charity quilt of my own, and I am off to the races.

I’ve got a couple of boxes of strings, and knew that I wanted to use them as they’re starting to get out of hand (and out of the boxes!) I’m trying to stick to a “medium” overall feel for the strings I’m using, and maybe I’ll make another one with more darks later, since I seem to have a lot of those as well. The pattern has some offset friendship stars in it, so I’m calling this one String Friendship Star unless I find out the name of the original pattern (if it’s the same design).

Miss Elna Carina came out to play for this, and she desperately needed some attention and use. I’m really happy my mom found a low-shank snap-on quarter inch foot (without guide) that I could use on her because the machine didn’t come with one.
