Spider quilt finish

I’ve been slowly processing scraps of fabric that dear friends have been gifting to me, trying to clear off space on my ironing board and cutting table. I wanted to get to the point where I could make some bias binding to finish this quilt, and yesterday I achieved that!

Now, I didn’t say all the scraps were completely processed, nor are the table or board completely cleared of fabric scraps and other things. But we’re getting there.

I decided with the pops of red in the cornerstones that I would bind the quilt in red also. I think it finishes off the quilt perfectly, and in my mind, that’s what Sallie would have chosen also.

Love the red binding to frame all the shades of gray

Our dear friend Rose Nethery quilted this one on her longarm machine, and I will be donating it to Maple Hill Church of Christ’s Wrap Them in Hugs.

And this was all finished after setting up the Horn sewing cabinet in my other room. The Juki fits perfectly on top, and I just need to order the insert. But even before I get the insert, I should be able to get to work practicing my domestic machine quilting. That has been my goal since before I retired, but I just didn’t have the space, and couldn’t make myself move machines all around (or take over the dining room table again).

I have quite a backlog of quilt tops that need to be quilted, and I really think this was the gift I needed to jump start that process (I hope, anyway!).
