Since I’ve been trying not to do too much with my left thumb, I thought I’d just try piecing some small pieces on my machine (which doesn’t involve pinching). I cut out the pieces I needed for the little blocks from strips I already had ready, and began working on them. Just a little at a time, it gives me at least something to do that doesn’t aggravate the injury or healing.

I found a gray grunge in my stash that I have just enough to use for the Sweet Love quilt top, and began piecing the units. I still have a lot more units to piece, but they will eventually be pieced into blocks like this.

There will be sashing between the blocks matching the gray grunge, which is a popular color combination in the past few years. It’s not my personal favorite, but I know a lot of people like it, so it should make a good charity quilt.
It has dealt a good blow to the yellow strips pile, so that makes me happy – I need to do more projects getting those scraps down, since I always seem to be making more or have more given to me.

Oh, Melissa, I hope your thumb heals soon! This is going to make a fantastic, happy, scrappy quilt! Glad you found something to work on that doesn’t aggravate it.
