I have been thinking about this project ever since I saw it a few years ago.Since I have completed 16 rows on my sock scraps granny square blanket, and have only 4 more to go there, I allowed myself to purchase and start the Northeasterly pattern yesterday.
It is written for two different weight choices, fingering and DK. And of course, if you hold two strands of fingering weight together, you essentially have a DK weight.
I started out by trying the fingering weight version. Of course, after I pulled out the needles and frogged it, I realized I was using a needle two sizes smaller than what it called for. But for a blanket, I just thought it was too lightweight.
So I started a marled version (where the two strands of fingering weight are different colors), and I liked the feel of it much better. My plan is for the marl to slowly transition from one color into another by using two similar colors (instead of highly contrasting).
Of course, after I took the photo above, I realized that I had gotten ahead of myself and didn’t read the pattern quite correctly, so I pulled that out and re-started. NOW it looks like the design is supposed to.
I think this is going to be really fun to watch develop!
