New purse straps

Well, as you can tell from the photo, my purse straps have seen better days. I searched through my brown fabrics and found a fat quarter that I thought could coordinate fairly well. It has a brown background with little flowers.

I cut 4-inch strips of the fabric and fusible fleece. Once they were fused, I used the instructions from my recent boxy tote project to make similar straps. I finished the ends so I could easily sew them to the rectangular rings on my purses (did I mention I have two identical purses with the same problem?).

I like the extra sewing line down the center of mine. I don’t know that it adds extra stability, but it certainly couldn’t hurt.

The new straps are a little shorter than the old ones, but I actually like that better.

And I’ve finished both of them! My second one will be put away for now. My current one actually has more wear and tear on other edges, so I’ll just use it until it really needs to be replaced. Who knows, the straps may outlast the purses now.
