I was so excited to get my beads in the mail enabling me to move forward with my Mermaid Lair shawl.
Of course, things did not go as planned, and I quickly had to rip out and re-start. In fact, I did that a couple of times. I finally got back on track, and then had to hunt down the correct size crochet hook to put these size 8 beads on.
Most of my size 10 and 12 steel crochet hooks will work for the size 6 beads, but size 8 beads are a bit smaller, and the holes of these are much smaller. I found an antique hook size 14 that works, but it seemed to want to snag a bit on the silk – not good. I tried using a dental floss threader, but that was so slow and fiddly. Then I pulled out my Clover Amour steel crochet hook set – the smallest is a size 12 there. Fortunately, it fits perfectly, with no snags! And yes, some sections have a lot of beads. I think these will look really nice accented across all the colors of this gradient.
