When I finished the patriotic version of Cladonia, I was already thinking about what shawl I wanted to start next. I’ve had some lace in a pale pink to dark gray gradient for several years just waiting for me to start a fancy lace shawl. I enjoy making them, but I know they require concentration, so I do have to be in the right frame of mind (with the right amount of time) to work on them.
I started on my shawl above (Mermaid Lair by By the Lily Pond), only to discover that duh, I needed beads – a lot of them – immediately. And I love to bead shawls. So I didn’t want to leave them off. So this was my teeny tiny bit of progress when I went to order them.
And now I have to wait a few days until they arrive before I can move forward.
I didn’t feel like working on my sweater sleeves yet. I was in the mood for a shawl! So I pulled out some other yarns that I’ve recently been considering for a three-color shawl, and I found a pattern from a designer I trust and have knit her designs previously. The photo above is those yarns and my first bit of progress on the About Time shawl by Boo Knits. I think, because the yarns are kind of similar in value and colors that the design will be a nice subtle version. After some recent wild and zany shawl color combinations, I wanted some color, but not the in-your-face kind.
This one doesn’t have beads, so I’m able to work on it until I receive my bead order and can continue on Mermaid Lair. They both have charts (and Mermaid Lair is pretty much only charts), so I’m thankful that I finally sat down and learned how to read knitting charts. There are some great tutorials and classes that have been helpful with that.
