Turnabout Granny Square finished

I got this back from the quilter a couple of weeks ago, but hadn’t had a chance to trim and bind it until this weekend. Part of that was because I had stacks upon stacks of things on my cutting table. So I cleared most of those things off and finally trimmed it and made my binding. I used a 2 1/4″ double-fold binding, which is what I have come to use now on most of my quilts that I machine bind. However, this was much thicker because it was also flannel fabric – in fact, all of the fabric in this quilt – in the quilt top and the backing as well – are flannels. Anyway, the binding was a bit harder to handle because of the bulk, but I managed to sew it to the back and turn it to the front, all by machine.

This was quilted by my friend Margie Dill, and I like the graphic boldness of the design. The vertical and horizontal quilting lines really complement all the diagonal lines of the patchwork. The thread she used is a deep brownish red, and it really makes the quilting stand out.
