Thursday night I got together with a couple of other quilters and we had a nice time sitting and sewing. This time I brought my sewing machine and worked on my Turnabout Granny Square quilt.
I honestly didn’t expect to get as much accomplished as I did, but it was a great night for sewing. Elaine worked on her Cherry Crunch quilt and Wanda worked on her hand embroidery, and we all made some good progress!
I was surprised when I finished sewing the quarter blocks into half blocks, and then I figured I’d start on piecing the half blocks together. And I managed to get all of those pieced!
Yes, those points will all be clipped when I sew the sashing strips to the blocks – and that’s what makes this quilt so charming. It really softens the look of the block, and I’m looking forward to getting this all assembled to see the final result.
These little blocks feel so nice – using Woolies Flannels. The fabric quality is superb. I love the deep, rich colors too. The quilt is supposed to measure 65″ by 78″ with a border fabric, and I’ve picked out a teal plaid and a cream herringbone. I’m not sure which I will use, but I’m leaning toward the teal plaid. I plan to use a dark red houndstooth for binding (all Woolies Flannels). I really have no idea about what sort of backing fabric I’ll use, but I’m hoping to find another cotton sateen that will really go nicely with this. I’ll probably make that decision when I take it to my quilter.
