Plum and olive starburst

I made this block about a week ago, in between sewing some of the Peaks and Valleys blocks. It has some brown in it, but I think it’s different enough from the last block with the bits of green, purple, and a teensy bit of orange in the plaid. I used that plum/olive fabric as a feature fabric and binding in a french braid table runner several years ago. Alas, I think this is pretty much the last of it. I don’t even remember where or why I originally bought it, because it’s so outside of my usual style. But I’ve received lots of compliments whenever I’ve used it over the years.

It’s funny how often I pull fabrics for these blocks, thinking that they go pretty well together. But then I cut them and arrange them in the layout, and they take on a whole different look that is not as pleasing as I’d imagined. I really wanted to use a lighter golden-orange print as the lightest fabric, to pick up that orange in the plaid. But when I laid them out with the others, they clashed badly. So I went with the lighter green print that has a little maroon in it that now seems just perfect. I think the orangey-brown in the feature print has just enough to pull on that orange in the plaid anyway, now that I look at it.
