This weekend Amy Beth and I worked on basting our quilts. We each basted a medium-sized quilt with 505 basting spray using the method demonstrated in a Craftsy class video (Small Machine, Big Quilts, Better Results).
I went first, and learned that less really is more/better when applying the spray baste. We used that information to help make basting her quilt a little easier.
We practiced a little bit of walking foot quilting on our practice pieces, which gave us some information to think about when planning our actual quilting process/design.
On Sunday, I worked on putting in the stabilizing lines of walking foot quilting (or not, when Leia decided to “help” me “stabilize by settling in to sleep on it, as above). I used Wonderfil clear nylon thread in the top and a light gray Isacord 100% polyester thread (that I’ll be using when doing the regular quilting) in the bobbin. I still haven’t decided exactly how I want to quilt in between those stabilization areas, but I did a little more practicing after that. I might do some free-motion quilting, since I’m trying to improve those skills.
