I’ve made the Josephine Shawl, a free pattern, twice before. The first was a knit from a kit of two balls of Noro Taiyo sock yarn that were supposed to be the same colorway. They were not, but I decided to just go with it, and when I have the shawl double wrapped around my neck, I like the look of all of the colors together.
I made another one for myself in more spring-like colors because I liked the “stickiness” of the yarn. Once you tied it, it doesn’t come untied until you want to. The yarn is not the easiest to use, it’s thick and thin and tangles very easily, but it looks great finished, a little rustic and very textured. I love the stripes.
So I decided to make a third shawl – this one for my mom. It has blues, browns, and purples – lots of shades of each. And I’m almost finished with it. It’s a easy knit for when I’m in waiting rooms, or just don’t have the time to sit down with a complex pattern, but want to knit a bit. It’s hard to get a great photo when it’s on the needles, but here are before and after photos for this month:
That ball of yarn is getting smaller and smaller. There was a yarn join in the middle, which is why the pattern of stripes is a little interrupted, but I wasn’t about to make the shawl shorter just to make the patterns line up perfectly.
They are beautiful, Melissa! I know your Mom is going to love hers. I’ve had one of those on my radar for a while now. Maybe I’ll get brave and start one soon.
Thank you! And you should! They’re a great project for grab-and-go.
