My favorite skirt(s)

Last year, I finally broke down and made myself a skirt. I had been looking for a nice a-line skirt with pockets. Do you know how hard it is to find a skirt, let alone an a-line skirt (that isn’t a miniskirt) in a store??? Add pockets to the mix, and well, you might as well be asking for Santa Claus to bring you a new car for Christmas. I found several a-line skirts on Amazon, but I did not want stretchy, flimsy fabric. And I wanted pockets! And I thought, silly girl – you should make yourself a skirt. After all, you sew all the time to make quilts (and you have made pieces of clothing in the past from patterns).

So I searched and searched, and I found the Show Some Flare A-Line Skirt Pattern from So Sew Easy. She even has a great video tutorial (which I have watched multiple times) on each step.

I bought some inexpensive 100% cotton fabric to make my “muslin/practice” piece, and it turned out so nice that I wear it a lot.

I decided to lengthen the skirt and add a lining when I made my second muslin/practice piece. I used the How to Line a Skirt in 8 Easy Steps tutorial from the same site. It made the skirt go from good to great.

I made one additional skirt at the time from some donated fabric, but I haven’t taken a photo of it. I’ll try to share it later.

Anyway, the reason for showing these? I’m going to make more, of course! And I plan to assembly-line sew them because there are a lot of steps, and it’s just easier for me if I tackle all of them at the same time. I had already washed all of my fabrics, so Sunday night, before the storm and power outage, I managed to get all of the pattern pieces cut for the skirt fabrics and most of the lining fabrics.

Pattern pieces cut for 9 skirts, including most lining pieces (not shown)

It will take a while, but I’m very excited to make these. And yes, I have included three precious Tula Pink fabrics too!
