I’m slowly working on my Spiky Star blocks, which are multiplying on the design wall. In the upper left corner, I’ve also got one (and one quarter of one) of the alternate blocks for my Xing quilt, which I really need to get cracking on.
And now on the right side I’ve added a couple of Bonnie Hunter’s latest Leader Ender challenge (2026) blocks called Tulip Swirl. They’re really cute, and easy to make (and you know this girl loves her 4-patch blocks!), and I just got a little bag of scraps from another quilting friend, so of course I had to dig into them.
I’ve also put a quilt top and batting (from a quilt I made in 2006-07) together with a new backing (the first time I hand-quilted with very light quilting, and the backing separated from the rest of the quilt almost entirely over time), and have started quilting it on my machine. More to come on it later. It’s a larger quilt that will be trimmed down a little, but I’ll be quilting it in the same manner as I’ve been quilting the baby quilts because it’s another (drumroll please) double four-patch. Maybe I’m foolish for re-quilting it because the top is made from flannels, and they’re a bit worn themselves, but I loved the colors when I made it, and I would really like to keep it around a little while longer.

This quilt pattern was called “Pick a Patch of Flannel” from the January 2003 issue of McCall’s Quilting Quick Quilts.
