Yep, another start

I decided that since I found all of the right fabrics to use in this quilt, I’d go ahead and start it. I’m planning on finishing the quilt top before getting back to other things.

The first time I made this quilt, it was a 3-day weekend when my husband was on a short trip with some of his guy friends. I started the quilt and finished the top during that short time he was away. Yes, there were a couple of late nights, but I remember being amazed at having knocked it out so quickly.

The pattern is Sweet Hydrangea, and it was a free pattern from Northcott Fabrics. I don’t believe it is available any longer. I chose to use some very different fabrics from the ones used in the model/pattern quilt.

My focus was “Cocoa Bling Kitty” from Michael Miller Fabrics. I thought it was such a neat print, so I bought or found fabrics in stash to coordinate with the colors in the focus print. I started and finished it (and had it quilted) in 2008.

This time I’m using an outdoors-y fabric as the focus print. I could have gone several ways with colors, but I chose to go with coordinating reds/maroons and browns.

All of Block 1 finished

This is the first block. There are 3 different blocks that make up the quilt, and I’ve just started working on the second one.

One of Block 2 finished

I haven’t decided on what I’ll use for borders yet. I’ll probably wait until I finish piecing the quilt top together. Also, it’s taking me a lot longer than the first time I made this quilt design. But I’m not working on it day and night like I did back then. Things are a bit more laid back this time around.
