Last year at retreat, I bought a couple of layer cakes (10 inch squares) in addition to the jelly roll (2½ inch strips) I used in the Harvest Moon Lanterns quilt.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to use them in quilts, and finally landed on the First Night pattern by Villa Rosa Designs. Actually, I just looked at the design, calculated what I thought I would need, then figured out the pattern on my own. I wanted something that would showcase some of the squares with minimal cutting.
This layer cake is from The Great Outdoors collection of fabrics by Stacy Iest Hsu for Moda Fabrics. I think it will make a nice charity quilt for a man. It measures 48½” x 67½”.
