Ready for next strips

My long weekend did not go as I had planned (I took Friday off as a vacation day), but I still managed to get that first set of light strips on the third round.

My optometrist worked me in for a check on my right eye Thursday afternoon – I suspected that I’d experienced a post-vitreous detachment (PVD) there, which is not unexpected because I’d had the same thing happen to my left eye about a year and a half ago. He confirmed, and said that everything looked okay, but if I experienced some additional symptoms to let them know.

Thursday night as I was getting ready for bed, I didn’t have what I expected as “flashing lights” but I did have some slashing/arcing bright lights, about 5-6 times in my right peripheral vision (which were very noticeable and very disconcerting in the dark). They didn’t persist, and I was able to settle down and go to sleep, but I called Friday morning and they were able to get me a referral to see a retina specialist to do a more extensive check that morning.

I was so impressed by everyone there – the doctor and technicians and all of the office staff. Everyone was super nice, efficient, and they made the whole experience less fretful. The good news is that the doctor confirmed the PVD and told me he did not see any retina tears, which is the complication that can occur in a small fraction of cases (PVD is very common as you get older). He said the likelihood of that happening is about 2%, and he didn’t see anything that made him think it should happen in my case. If the flashing lights get to be persistent, or if I have a shadow in my vision or “hundreds” of more floaters, then I should get back in to see them promptly. My eye should adapt to the big lacy floater that I see currently, and it should eventually become much less noticeable.

I had a nice visit with my mom and dad after that, while waiting for the dilation to wear off. Then I was finally able to see again to sew, and I managed to get the first neutral strips of round 3 sewn to all of my log cabin blocks. They are queued up for the next round of sewing to the second neutral strips.
