A friend at church asked if I would a) teach her to knit a baby sweater, or b) knit one on her behalf for her new granddaughter. Although I’ve knit sweaters and cardigans for myself, I’ve never knit them for anyone else, let alone taught anyone else how to knit anything.
I told her that I would attempt to knit something, and then I’d let her decide if she likes it and if it will fit (it’s supposed to fit around a 6 month-12 month old).
I started out with the bebe chocolat design (above) and some pink worsted weight acrylic yarn I had from a recent donation. About mid-way through it, I thought it might be a bit large. So I went out and got a skein of yarn that was more of a DK weight. And I started a different pattern, the Jack and Jill Baby Cardigan with it.
I finished the second one first. And I think it’s really cute with the little splotches of dark pink in the pale pink background. But I almost think it’s a little larger than the first one! Oh well, hopefully one of them will fit.
I finished the first (bebe chocolat) cardigan Sunday night while I was sitting on the sofa and CC was playing video games. I think because I knit the worsted weight on a similar size needle to the DK weight yarn, the fabric is definitely denser, more structured.
It was a good experience, but not something I want to do frequently. I’ll stick to charity hats, shawls, socks, and sweaters (for me) for now.
