I keep telling myself I’m not going to start any new mystery quilts and then I find myself starting new mystery quilts. Well, this one is the final one!
One of my local quilting clubs is hosting a mystery – they didn’t design it, but they are providing the clues each month, and help if you have trouble figuring them out.
I completed the first clue, which took me a couple of days. We had to make 8 of the left block and 4 of the right block. And I tried to make them the way the directions were written. But I struggled making the flying geese units using the no-waste 4-at-a-time method. Nor do I like the 2-at-a time half square triangle units from one larger square. I just don’t like drawing a line and trying to stitch one quarter inch on either side of it with my vision issues. The Essential Triangle method (Bonnie Hunter ruler) is much easier and more accurate for me, even though it may not come out perfect every time.
And we just received the clue for the second month. The design seems very graphic, but the “never again!” is being reinforced. We have the left block again, but in a different color order (such a fiddly block!). Maybe I’m just over mysteries in general – I remember doing block of the month quilts with a quilt shop several years in a row and thoroughly enjoying them. Oh well. maybe I’ll remember my lessons learned the next time?
