Alrighty then! I now have all of the blocks made for this quilt, and as I mentioned previously, I’m only making the dark background version.
First thing’s first – I took out those 15 width-of-fabric by 3 1/2″ strips that I cut way back at the beginning. I cut off the selvedge edges, and pieced them end to end (on the short sides). I pressed the seams to one side. If you were to want to press the seams open, I would recommend sewing with a slightly shorter stitch length to keep them from coming apart at the edges.
From the pieced strip, I cut the following shorter strips:
- 75 1/2″ (2)
- 66 1/2″ (2)
- 60 1/2″ (1)
- 21 1/2″ (2)
- 15 1/2″ (6)
- 12 1/2″ (2)
- 9 1/2″ (6)
- 6 1/2″ (2)
Then, from the remaining background fabric, I cut the following shapes:
- 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ (2)
- 12 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ (2)
- 12 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ (4)
- 6 1/2″ x 15 1/2″ (2)
- 6 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ (2)
- 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ (2)
That makes all of the background pieces (along with my already pieced blocks) I need to piece together my quilt. Next I’ll be filling in this outline and piecing together all of the sections.
