In a continuing effort to actually make projects for which I previously purchased yarn, I pulled out these two skeins that I picked up in 2015 and intended to make into a shawl. I found the pattern for Scalene, which is an asymmetric keyhole scarf, and it seemed like a good fit for these two yarns together.
Striping the two together really tones down the bright, almost neon, pops of the acid yellow-green. I am torn between whether to use the green or the gray as the solid stripe when I get to that point in the pattern. I think that the contrast with the green will not be as apparent because it is so variegated with sections of gray. The gray is more of a tonal, which would definitely be a better contrast color, but it will still be fairly muted because the two yarns are closer in value than what was used in the model photo.
I guess I’ll have to muse on it a little longer and then make a decision when I get there. And no, I don’t really have any clothing that this will coordinate with. I was just drawn to the colors when I saw them hanging in the booth at the knitting show.
Oh, and I bought another set of gray and green (though different shade of green entirely) at that same show! I was really into that combination of colors that year. Here is what I made with that set, which I’ve shared before – I did feature the green in this shawl.
