I wanted to make a couple of pairs of fingerless mitts as gifts this year, so I thought I’d better get to it. I’ve made both of these patterns before. The first pair is the Cozy Thermal Mitts. I’ve made a couple of pairs of these, and I really like the pattern. They’re a fairly short mitt, so they work up pretty quickly.

After I made the Cozy Thermal Mitts, I went looking for the leftover contrast yarn from my second Beck sweater – the colorway name is Hollyhock. I originally saw this yarn in the spreadsheet I keep (yes, my stash is that deep, more on that another day), and could not remember what I had made with it, but I didn’t see it where I keep my other worsted weight yarn skeins. I kept thinking that I’d made another gift with it, but just couldn’t remember what that could have been.
It took me a few days, but I finally remembered that I hadn’t used very much of it (only about 15 grams), because it was just a tiny bit of contrast in Beck 2. So then I went looking where I keep the used yarn cakes, and there it was, and just as pretty a color as I remembered.
So I looked through my fingerless mitts patterns and decided on another one that I’ve made previously.

I definitely want to make these again – the cables look great, and even better on the hand.

They do take a little bit of concentration, but the effort is worth it.
Something else I’ve started to try to do is to tighten up my purl stitches with combination knitting. I mentioned trying this quite some time ago when swatching for my Affiknity sweater (which I hope to get back to this winter). It seems to be working out pretty well, and my knitting looks a lot neater overall.
