After finding out that the first set of slippers did not quite fit, I decided to try a different pattern for the new pair. I made these a little longer, and also made the toe area wider, as that was the primary issue with the first pair.
The secondary issue was an issue for me. While I like the nostalgic look of the first pair with the large garter stitch area for most of the foot and heel, I wasn’t super happy about the construction. The pattern I used requires that you take a flat piece and seam it in an upside town “T” fashion. Honestly not a fan of that construction, neither doing it nor the end look.
So I began looking for a pattern that would be a bit more like a sock – that I could knit without seaming. And I came up with three patterns. This pattern is called Footies by Quirky Bird Knits. It calls for worsted weight yarn, which is what I wanted to use (I used the same yarn as the last time – Yarn Bee Breathe Deep). I modified it a bit to make the foot longer and did fewer decreases at the toe, even though the pattern says that a snug fit is best. The first one is finished, and I hope to be able to finish the second in time to drop off the new pair Wednesday night at church.
I like this pattern very much, and I’m now curious to try out the other two that I found – one calls for a chunky weight yarn, and the other is knit toe-to-heel instead of heel-to-toe.
Did she like them?
I hope so! I gave them to a lady at church last night to get them to her, so I should know on Sunday. Fingers crossed!
Cool! they look lovely.
And I just received a text message that they were delivered today – and she thought they were perfect! Hooray! She was very appreciative, and I’m really glad I knit her this pair. <3
