Much better

I went up to a US F/3.75 mm size hook, which just happens to be the same size I use for my sock scraps granny squares, and I’m much happier with the result. The fabric it creates is less dense, but not so much less that it creates a big holes.

The overall size is larger by approximately ½ inch, and I’m okay with that. Actually, when I connect the granny squares together, their block size grows a bit bigger as well because I’m adding a light gray border to each (as a fifth round).

Size comparison of new hexie with granny square

If I continue to crochet and add hexies like this, they will have a much scrappier look than the granny square blanket. I’m trying to decide if that’s the look I want, or if I want to do something different, by connecting them with a single color or perhaps adding single color blocks here and there. It’s still very much a design-in-progress, but I very much prefer how these little hexie “flowers” look and feel.
