Lighthouse pillow

I went to bed thinking that I wanted to finish the Lighthouse cross stitch as a pillow instead of framing it, but I wasn’t sure what fabric to use as a frame.

When I woke up, I had in mind the fabric from my stash that matched the sky. But I knew I didn’t have enough of it to go all the way around the piece. So I thought, what if I pieced some other fabrics together to sort of continue the theme of sky/water/sand-beach. I was able to find enough fabric in my stash for the water (didn’t have much of that left, but I did have enough!), and then I chose a great fabric for the sand/beach.

I really think this was the perfect way to finish it, and I gave it to my mother yesterday evening. She loves the beach and water, so it just seemed the perfect thing for her. Dad liked it too, and said it might go in their RV for when they go camping. We had a nice, quick dinner together. I’m so grateful to live closer to them now that I can pop over (or they can pop over to my house) just about any time.
