Most of the knitting projects I currently have in progress are ones that require a bit of concentration. That isn’t a great idea for when I need to have something to work on while riding in the car. So what’s a girl to do? Start a new pair of socks or two, or three.
I wanted a new pair of (Choose Your) House socks. They are knit with a superwash merino/nylon blend of yarn in a DK weight. Of course, I have lots of yarn, but not that specific combination, so I ordered some. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I decided to start another pair.
I went to pull out some sport weight from my stash. I’ve been hoarding some hand-dyed self-striping yarn from a favorite yarn dyer (who is no longer dyeing). I found what I was looking for, but along the way, I also noticed a skein of a fingering weight self-striping yarn that I bought a couple of years ago after I’d seen someone else knitting a pair of socks with it at the Super Summer Knitogether event.
I started the sport weight socks first (far right in the photo), and I decided to use a simple pattern, easy to remember, but with a little bit of texture. The self-striping colors are very subtle and dark, and they could use a little texture that won’t take away from the beauty of the striping colors.
I started the fingering weight socks next (middle in the photo), and decided they should just be plain. The stripe colors on them are pretty bold, and I thought that a pattern might distract or get lost.
Meanwhile, my DK weight yarn arrived. So I caked it up, and finally cast on the House socks that started this whole thing (far left in the photo). I think the colors are going to be so pretty, and they should knit up fairly quickly.
