Last weekend on Saturday morning, I woke up a little after 2 a.m., and couldn’t go back to sleep. I’ve learned that it’s better to go ahead and get up and do something rather than toss and turn and get frustrated because my mind refused to “turn back off.”
So I went into my craft room and decided to pull fabrics for a new “mini” project I’ve been wanting to do for a while. I’ve made a couple of sets of “Cotton Theory” placemats for my dining room table, but none of them really fit for winter/spring. I’ve made a set for my parents as well. I really enjoy the process as well as the design.
Side one colors have my dining room in mind. Our walls are a deep burgundy/wine color, which I love. This side could be used at any time of year.
Side two colors are obviously winter-themed. I wanted something I can use after Christmas but before Spring.
Here are the other Cotton Theory placemat sets I’ve made, starting with my first set. I just chose fabrics from my stash that I thought looked nice together without planning for any decorator or seasonal themes. I tend to like to use these in summer – especially the bright one on side two. They seem to coordinate nicely with my Fiestaware dishes.
For Mom and Dad’s placemats, I wanted to do some that were pretty light, semi-coordinated with their decor, and could be associated with almost any time of year (but especially Spring, since that seems to be their favorite season). All fabrics from my stash.
And this set was kind of a spur of the moment type – another pull from stash (fat quarters are fabulous!). I wanted some for Autumn/Thanksgiving and Christmas. On these I used existing binding scraps from previous projects, which worked out really well.
I’ve got more assembly to do, as the feature photo is just the center piece of my new placemats. All of my pieces are quilted, so hopefully they won’t take too long to finish up. I really want them on my table soon!
