Over the past couple of weekends I’ve really focused on Grassy Creek. I finished making sashing strips.
And I finished making the completer pieces.
And then I spent a lot of time working on putting them all together.
On Sunday I set up my Juki, which up until this point I’ve only used for free motion quilting. I cleaned and oiled it, reset all of the settings for piecing, changed out the foot, wound a new bobbin, and got to work.
And I think I’ve fallen a little more in love with this machine. Not only is it a mechanical workhorse with a generous harp, but it has a feature that I hadn’t really put to use until today – automatic thread cutter on the foot pedal. Normally I chain piece, but it’s a little more unwieldy at times with string piecing papers. Enter that little piece of technology that I hadn’t appreciated until now.
I’ve pieced nearly half of the blocks needed, and I decided to put an orange string in the center of them to give another little pop of color in the border. Here’s hoping what I see in my head translates well to the final quilt!
Your quilt is beautiful and I can’t wait to see it in person! Love the pop of color you are adding to your final border.
Thank you! I’m really looking forward to seeing it all put together!
Oh, this is gorgeous! Can’t wait to see what the orange does; sounds great. So glad you are enjoying your Juki and it is doing its Job!
I know, me too – fingers crossed that orange looks the way I envision it!
