My February projects

The numbers for February were announced on January 27, and they are 20 and 4. What does that mean for my focus projects this month?

Cross Stitch and Needlework

4 is Lighthouse, and 20 is Chinese Dragon Gate, so it looks like it will be another interesting month.

Lighthouse is a project I’ve been working on recently, and I also managed to put a few more stitches in it in January. I plan to give it to my mom when it’s finished, since I know that she likes lighthouses, beaches, boats, and the sea as motifs. With it being a focus project, I might even get close to completing in in February.

Chinese Dragon Gate is another Chatelaine, and another design I’m stitching on dark (navy) fabric, so I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love the specialty stitches and all of the silks, beads, and crystal beads that are used, but I’ll have to make sure I have plenty of light when stitching it.

Knitting and Crochet

4 is the Mojito shawl, and 20 is the Stonecrop Cardi.

It looks like it’s time to tackle that bind off where I’ve dropped some stitches in the Mojito shawl. Probably past time, but I’m kind of glad to be getting to it now. I need to figure out how to pick up those stitches, get them back on the needles in the proper places, and get this baby finished. It is going to be a beautiful shawl – in a great deep aqua color.

The Stonecrop Cardi is a fingering weight cardigan that I’ve recently started, and love the colors, the texture in it. I set it aside at the end of last year in favor of working some other projects, so I’m happy to be able to give it a little focus again.

Quilting

4 is Machine Quilting practice, and 20 is Diamond Pops.

I was kind of hoping that Machine Quilting practice would be pushed off to later in the year, but at least it isn’t two blocks of that in February. I need to get out my Juki and dust her off, give her some oil anyway. I’ll probably go back through a couple of basic practice designs like meandering and loops and maybe venture on to the next in the class I was taking.

Diamond Pops is actually the free Sun Print 2016 Quilt design that was released for the Alison Glass Sun Print 2016 fabric line. I “renamed” it because I could never remember what the name was, and I am using Tula Pink fabrics. It is essentially a simple square in a square with some sashing pieces. Looking at the pattern, I’ll likely have a lot of small bonus half square triangles to use in something else later, or on the backing fabric.
